Tell us a little of your transit system’s background and history. How did the system start and where is it today?

The City of Alliance took over public transit from Box Butte County around six years ago, at that time it was called Box Butte County Public Transit. Two years ago, we renamed it to Alliance Public Transit. We since have replaced our fleet and now have three buses and two vans. Our rider count has gone up significantly in the last three years, and we continue to grow in our ridership.

How does your transit system serve the local community?

With it being a smaller community, there is no access to taxis, Uber, etc. We transport passengers to work, school, medical appointments, and everywhere in between. With us being on demand, riders can call in and have a ride within 15-30 minutes.

What are some highlights of serving your community?

Knowing that we are making a difference in our riders’ lives by getting them to work, the store, medical appointments, and school is very rewarding. Our riders express often how thankful they are to have access to our services and how we take the stress off their shoulders to meet their daily needs in transportation.

What are some challenges you see facing both your transit system and the industry as a whole?

Employment, finding workers is difficult everywhere right now.

What do your riders think of your transit system?

Our riders are extremely thankful for our services. They appreciate the fact that we are on demand and can get their rides taken care of quickly.
